1930 Pair of Macfarlane Framed Educational Posters
£150
These are original lithographs (circa 1930) from a series of early 20th century educational posters by the artist J Macfarlane. The series extended to 180 in total, complete sets are impossible to find. We have a small collection of six, beautifully framed and glazed (work carried out in 2008 in South Africa) and in immaculate condition, the black and gold, top quality, moulded wood frame is accompanied by a cream matte which has a subtle black highlight to the exposed edge further enhancing the presentation of the image. The pictures have been paired up as they display well as pairs (please note we are happy to discuss any particular pairing with interested purchasers).
The images capture a view of Africa that today we would perhaps see as fanciful, it was a social reflection of the British Empire Marketing Board of the 1930's, however as a good piece of social history, captured by a prolific and talented illustrator these are delightful. These are of 'a North African Street Market' and a 'Potter from Agra - Uttar Pradesh'.
Size, medium size pictures, with an overall frame size of 52 cm wide and 40 cm high and the image is 35 cm by 21 cm.
