This original Lithograph is by Achille Emile Othon Friesz (1879 - 1949). In translation it is believed to be entitled ancient sea wolf (or perhaps the old sea wolf) published by Edmond & Jacques Desjobert. Othon Friesz was a key French artist, a founder of the Fauvist movement alongside the likes of Raoul Dufy. Two colours print on tinted Malacca Vellum paper. Friesz produced a lot of work associated with the sea and fishing inspired by his home town of Le Havre, this old seadog fisherman image captures that lifetime of toil associated with English Channel /Atlantic fishing.
This image is in excellent condition. It deserved to be properly presented and preserved, therefore it has been re mounted (double matte mounts) and new frame with modern non reflective glass. (detail is shown in the photograph)
