Original Pastel of Crested Ducks by Norman Smith

Original Pastel of Crested Ducks by Norman Smith

£495

A large, signed, original pastel by English Artist Norman Smith, an elected member (2000) of the Pastel society and represented by a number of respected English galleries, this is a fine example of his work as a pastel artist, describing light and colour and texture in an exemplary manner. The painting is undated but looking at the development of the artist since the late 1980s we believe this is likely to date to the 1990's

It has been well framed and sets off a strong colourful work of art. The condition is ready to hang (there is a subtle smudge to the outer matte on one edge, otherwise no issues to picture nor frame.

Size: Frame is 81 cm wide by 66 cm high the image area is 53 cm wide by 36 cm high.

Artist notes:
Norman Smith (b 1949 -) studied Art and Design in Bristol, which led to a teaching both in the UK and in Australia, where he taught for three years, he turned to paint full-time in 1987. Currently is based in and his work is predominantly pastel, a medium which is suited to the use of bold and gentle colour to depict the changing moods of the landscape. His technique is to apply solid patches of pure colour in thick layers that create a heavy textured effect, treating this medium much like oil paint.

He is greatly attracted to coastal and marine subjects as these offer different challenges, a tremendous variety of colour and constant movement. The ducks are titled verso, but we haven't been able to decipher the name, although they may well be some of the crested Ducks to be found in Poole harbour region on the English South coast.

He is a regular exhibitor at the Pastel Society at the Mall Galleries in London, winning the Longley Prize in 1999. In 2000, he was the winner of the Inscribe Prize and in 2001 won the Thompsons Gallery Award.
