19th C. Staffordshire Spill Vase Scottish Couple
£175
A large mid 19th Century (circa 1870) flatback Staffordshire spill vase, modelled as a Scottish couple, the man holding a gun and the woman with a bird in hand. This combination would appear to be illustrative of the gamekeeper rather than the huntsman and the woman probably his wife. There are many variations to be found in the field of Staffordshire figures, there are common models and uncommon, then there is a great deal of difference in the quality of the finished item, we are pleased to offer one of the more uncommon models and one which is well modelled and well decorated.
It is a great 14 inch high figure group with a 9 inch width at the base of the kilt and skirt.
Condition is excellent, the photos are there to bear out the detail and condition of the whole group, the only point to note is the glaze cracks to the underside (shown in the photos) there are not structural cracks , they are in the thick glaze and they obviously have discoloured over the years.
