Staffordshire Flatback Spill Vase Farmer and Wife
£110
Dating to the mid 19th century this is Staffordshire flatback figure group as a spill vase (the tree trunk being hollow for the purpose of retaining the spills). The piece we believe is entitled 'the harvesters', it depicts the young man with a sheaf of corn and a sickle, the young woman a sack /bag gathered in her left hand and a sheaf of corn in her right. The bocage is on this model a textured application to the piece rather than a moulded and painted version.
Size: 8 1/2 inches high by 6 inches wide and 2 inches deep.
This is a nice pastoral group, not common and nice to find in good order. Overall the condition is excellent, no breaks, repairs or major losses, there are a few tiny surface scuffs to the glaze and the to be expected light crazing.
