circa 1800 Trumpet Champagne flutes
£600
A rare set of four George 11 (circa 1800) engraved and gilded Trumpet shape Champagne flutes. The introduction of decoration to the glass dates them to the early 19th century rather than the 18th. The trumpet flute is designed to serve the longer retention of the bubbles and therefore the perceived, enhanced drinking experience. The bowl terminates on the shortest of stems giving the drinker the maximum depth possible for the wine and in theory will cause the effervescence to remain longer. The drawn out bowl rises from a plain albeit stepped foot.
The bowl is elegantly decorated with a narrow band of diamond cut, over an engraved band of flower and foliage. The gilding we assume is a monogram although we have unfortunately been unable to attribute it.
Each glass is 9 inches high and has a base rim diameter of 2 3/4 inches which is the same as the diameter at the lip.
Please NOTE:
We have, at time of listing, two sets of four glasses available both sets are in identical and excellent condition. Enquiries are welcome for combining the sets
