Richardson Victorian Cut Glass Thistle Decanter
£150
Late 19th Century Cut Glass Crystal Thistle Decanter
Thistle shaped crystal is most often associated with Edinburgh. However, the thistle pattern was only introduced when Thomas Webb of Stourbridge purchased the Edinburgh and Leith flint glass company.
It is worth noting that is was a rival of Webb's that had been producing, in England no less, superb quality thistle pattern crystal ware from 1880 to 1900.
A Richardson version of a thistle decanter is distinctive as it is true to the way a natural thistle grows. As with this decanter the involcure is at the base of the decanter. As one would expect with Richardson, the cutting and engraving is of the highest standard and more naturalistic.
The stoppers are original, fitted, thistle shaped and engraved. The decanter has a sliced cut shoulders leading to a beautifully engraved body which meets a diamond cut bulbous lower section, and a star cut base.
This stunning decanter is in near perfect condition, clean and clear, and stands at 9.5 inches tall.
