Circa 1870 Framed Miniature China Head Doll
£145
A late 19th century miniature porcelain head dolls of a mother and baby presented as a framed and glazed tableau mimicking the miniature portraits and framed family photographs of the Victorian era.
The background is a hand worked lace the doll is posed holding a swaddled baby in a lace shawl. The mother's arms and body would appear to be felt, the dress in period fabric. There are no legs immediately visible, although close inspection there is a suggestion of felt legs under the full-length skirt.
The frame is of the period although its original varnish finish has stippled with age, we would be tempted to leave everything as is, maintaining that originality and character of this most unusual piece.
Size: The doll is behind glass but approximately is 4 1/4 inches from head to hem, the glazed oval is 5 1/2 inches by 3 1/2 inches and the frame 7 1/2 inches by 6 inches and is also 1 1/4 inches deep.
