19th C, French Rosewood Boulle Glovebox
£265
A 19th century, circa 1860, Napoleon III ebonized rosewood, fall front glove box with working lock and key. It is decorated and embellished with brass stringing and quarter circle trim to the top edge. The centre has a boulle work panel with an etched design to the brass with a monogram to the central cartouche.
This box is in very good condition, we have had it cleaned re-polished and the lock serviced, all the hinges are original and secure , they haven't been moved or replaced. This is what we describe as a light touch restoration, it is still a box with patina and evidence of its age and use but overall it is a great item , one to continue to be used for another 150 or so years.
Boulle work has always been associated with the luxury end of the inlaid wood market, from the original work by Andre Boulle to the later work of other craftsmen following in the originals footsteps. This box is no exception.
Size:280 mm long, 100mm wide, 80mm high.
