Arts & Crafts Hammered Pewter Cocktail Tray
£50
An interesting high quality and heavy gauge, circa 1930, hammered pewter small two handle serving tray by Samuel Groves of Birmingham (one of the longest serving metal manufacturing companies in England still in business today after more than 200 years). The tray is marked with the Roundhead trade mark which in this form was from 1921 latter replaced by a leadless mark and these expired in the late 40's/early 50's. It is an arts and crafts form and as the company still manufactures everything with hand finishing it is in the truest tradition of Arts and Crafts, it is functional as well as attractive.
Overall the tray is 12 inches by 9 inches excluding the extent of the handle. It is also a deep set tray with 1/2 inch sides, the handle is 1 1/2 inches high. It weighs just over 1 kg
The condition is cleaned but unpolished, we understand this particular range was indeed polished to a silver finish when new, however it has a natural age patina that is appreciated by some buyers and therefore we have left the decision of whether or not to polish further to the buyer. The metal is undamaged, there are normal signs of use commensurate with age and application.
