Georgian Silver Toddy Ladle
£145
Georgian silver Brandy or Toddy ladle with twisted whalebone handle, in good condition. Lovely rope edge detail to the bowl.
Worn hallmarks to the tongue of the handle, there is a clear makers mark IM, deciphering the worn marks as having a Georgian head plus a lion passant. No clear mark for assay town nor date. The maker's mark is disputed as to the owner, it is very clear on the handle, and we believe it is John Merry of London 1804-1815.
Measures: 31 cm long Bowl is 8.25 cm at width and front to back 6cmm with a depth of 2cm.
This is as it is, the bowl has, in the long-lost past, been fitted to the bowl by 'rivet', the silver being reshaped to follow the contour of the bowl. Otherwise, it is a great honest survivor of the early 19th century
