Victorian Silver Plated Coasters circa 1890

Victorian Silver Plated Coasters circa 1890

£110

A nice two piece combination of late 19th century (1890/1900) silver plate coasters, one for your decanter and the other for your glass. The larger coasters are most often described as a bottle coaster, back in the 19th century they would have been for the decanter, less common are the individual small galleried coasters designed for a glass.

In this offer the LARGE is a late Victorian period, decanter coaster in excellent condition.

The coaster has an ornate typically Georgian rim or flange with eight slightly fluted side panels, and is on its original oak / mahogany base with a plain central silver plated boss. Measures 16cms diameter x 5cms tall and weighs 279gms.

The smaller of the two is again a Late Victorian English silver-plate wine glass coaster with a turned mahogany base, silver plated central boss, machine pierced sides with probably the original baize felt bottom. Measures 8cms diameter x 4cms tall, and weighs 73 gms. Good condition.

These are both good weight of metal, the plate is just showing the copper at the rim on the glass coaster and the decanter one is yet to show any thinning of the silver surface. Two items of drinking related interest, a large late Victorian period, circa 1880, decanter (or wine bottle) coaster in excellent condition.
